What kind of massage do you offer?

I specialize in Deep tissue and Orthopedic massage for the treatment of injuries and chronic stress patterns. My work is also beneficial to athletes for maintaining peak performance levels and preventing injury.
In my Integrated Swedish massage, I use Swedish as my base while incorporating other modalities as needed, such as Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, Lymphatic, Esalen, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, and Polarity (energywork).

What can I expect at my first session?

I will conduct a detailed interview with you regarding your health history, lifestyle (hobbies, activities, unusual stresses, etc), your needs and/or expectations for our session, and I will address any questions or concerns you may have. Based on this assessment, we will decide what type of massage would be most beneficial to you. Your body will also tell me what it needs, so I will know during the session what other techniques might facilitate your relaxation and healing.

Why do you need such detailed information about my health history?

There are some conditions that are contraindicated for massage, and others that require modifications to ensure your safety and comfort. I need to inquire into your health history in order to ensure the massage is adapted for your optimal wellness.

Do I have to take all my clothes off?

Most traditional types of massage and bodywork are performed with the client unclothed, but if you would prefer to wear underwear or shorts, I will respect your decision and work around your clothing. Your comfort and sense of well-being are of primary importance to me during a massage session. Be assured that you will always be draped properly and modestly, no matter what you decide to wear.

How often should I receive massage?

Determining how often is completely individual, and depends on your goals, time and money. In the long run, you stand to enjoy much better health gains through consistent sessions.  I feel that once a month is a good maintenance schedule. If you have a particular injury or trauma, or are experiencing an unusually stressful period in your life, you may want to come in once a week or once every two weeks until the issue has been mostly resolved. After that you might taper off to the monthly routine. Keep in mind that I do offer discounts through my Back Again program, which is designed to give you a discount when you purchase multiple sessions in advance.
